Most people only hire a builder, a scaffolder or a heating engineer a handful of times in their life. They have no way of telling a good firm from a bad one, no idea what the work should cost, and no real recourse when it goes wrong. Meanwhile the good trades — and the overwhelming majority are good — spend money buying leads that were sold to four other firms, and quote into silence.
Tradeyard exists because both of those problems have the same cause. The platforms in this market make their money at the introduction, so that is where their interest stops. Nobody is looking after what happens once the trade turns up.
We are opening one area at a time, and only once there are enough verified trades to quote every job posted. A platform where nobody bids is worse than no platform at all.
We are a small team and we read everything. No ticket numbers, no phone trees.
If you are in immediate danger, or there is a gas leak, a fire or a risk of electric shock, contact the emergency services on 999. For a suspected gas leak call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Do not wait for a trade.
This is a plain-English draft prepared alongside the product design. It must be reviewed and finalised by a qualified solicitor before Tradeyard opens to the public.
Tradeyard is a platform that introduces homeowners and other customers to tradespeople, and then provides tools for managing the work. We are not a builder, a contractor or an agent. We do not carry out any of the work, we do not employ or subcontract the tradespeople listed, and we are not party to the contract between you and them.
When you accept a quote, you enter into a contract directly with that tradesperson or their business, on the terms set out in the quote. They are responsible for the work, for its quality, for their own health and safety obligations, and for any warranty or guarantee they offer. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply to that contract in the usual way.
Tradeyard does not handle, hold or process payments for the work. Invoices raised through the platform are records for both parties; settlement is arranged directly between you and the tradesperson. The only payment we take is a subscription fee from tradespeople for use of the platform.
Before a tradesperson can quote, we check their company registration, the identity of a director or principal, their public liability insurance, and the trade cards and scheme memberships they claim, against the issuing body where one exists. We record and display the date of each check.
Verification confirms that those documents were valid on the date checked. It is not a guarantee of workmanship, conduct or outcome, and it does not make us responsible for the work. Documents can be withdrawn or lapse between checks; where we become aware of that, the badge is suspended.
You agree to give accurate information, to post only genuine jobs you intend to have done, and not to use the platform to advertise, to harvest contact details, or to contact people for any purpose other than the job in question. Tradespeople agree not to solicit customers off the platform before a quote has been accepted, and not to misrepresent their accreditations. We may suspend or remove any account that breaches this.
Quotes are given by tradespeople, not by us, and we do not set or suggest prices. Where work changes, the tradesperson raises a priced variation which you approve or decline before the work proceeds. Quotes, approvals, messages and status changes are timestamped and retained so that both parties have the same record.
Reviews may only be left by a customer about a job completed through the platform. Tradespeople have a right of reply, published alongside the review. We do not edit reviews to change their meaning, and we do not remove a review simply because it is unfavourable. We will remove content that is abusive, discloses personal information, or breaches these terms.
Emergency call-out alerts available verified tradespeople near you. It is not an emergency service and we cannot guarantee that anyone will accept, or how quickly they will arrive. Where life, property or safety is at immediate risk you must contact the emergency services or the relevant national emergency line.
Tradesperson subscriptions are monthly, with no minimum term. A free trial begins when verification is approved, not when you sign up. You may cancel at any time from within the app and will retain access until the end of the paid period. On cancellation you keep full customer access, and your job history and reviews are retained and exportable.
We provide the platform with reasonable care and skill, but we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error free. We are not liable for the acts, omissions, workmanship or solvency of any tradesperson or customer. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
If you are unhappy with the platform or with something that has happened on it, please follow our complaints procedure. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
The short version: we collect what we need to match you with the right people and keep a record of the job. Your contact details are not released to a tradesperson until they have quoted. We do not sell your data to anyone, ever, and we do not pass it to third parties for marketing.
Tradeyard is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us about anything in this notice at privacy@tradeyard.co.uk.
When you post a job, tradespeople see the description, the photographs, and the general area — not your full address, your name, your phone number or your email. Those are released only once a tradesperson submits a quote, and only to the small number who do. This is deliberate: it is how we stop you being cold-called.
A small number of service providers process data on our behalf, under contract and only on our instructions: our UK cloud hosting and storage provider, our payment processor for trade subscriptions, our email and SMS delivery providers, and Companies House for company lookups. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for third-party marketing.
Data is stored in the United Kingdom and encrypted at rest. Job records, including quotes, approvals and messages, are kept for six years after completion, because they may be needed if a dispute or a claim arises. Verification documents are kept for the duration of membership plus one year. Waitlist entries are deleted once we have opened in your area, or sooner on request.
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we are using it, or ask for it in a portable format. You can do most of this yourself from the account section of the app, or email us and we will action it within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
This website uses only what is necessary to make it work. We do not run advertising or tracking cookies on it.
We would much rather hear about a problem than have you leave quietly. Here is exactly what happens.
We publish the outcome of review decisions in anonymised form, because a complaints process nobody can see is not really a complaints process.
Posting a job is free, takes about five minutes, and does not commit you to anything. You can walk away at any point, right up to accepting a quote.
Once you accept, the job carries on inside Tradeyard — stages, site photos, priced changes you approve, then sign-off and a review. That part is what makes this different from a directory.
A burst pipe, a dead boiler in February, storm damage to a roof, a scaffold that has shifted. You are not comparing three quotes over a week — you need someone competent, now.
First, the important bit. If there is a fire, a risk of electric shock, a structural collapse or anyone is hurt, call 999. For a suspected gas leak, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 and leave the building. Tradeyard is not an emergency service.
Emergency call-out is free for homeowners, like everything else on the customer side. It is free to cancel right up until someone accepts.
Join the waitlistVerification usually takes two working days. Your free trial does not start until you are approved, so nothing is running down while you wait.
We are recruiting a first group of verified trades in each area before we open to homeowners. If you are in that group, you get a better deal and a say in how this gets built.
Quote the jobs that suit you, use the app on site properly, and tell us honestly when something does not work. If a job goes well, let us photograph it and write it up. That is it — there is no minimum spend and no exclusivity.
We are being deliberately careful about the order we do this in. Recruiting homeowners before there are trades to quote their work would waste their time and yours. Trades come first, always.
Post your job once. Get up to four itemised quotes from verified UK tradespeople — then follow every stage, photo and priced change to sign-off.
Anyone can call themselves verified. We check the company at Companies House, the director's identity, the public liability policy and every trade card — then record the date we did it and show you.
The quote, the changes, the photos and the sign-off — all in one place, and all on the record.
Tell us what has happened in under a minute. Every available verified trade nearby is alerted at once, and the first to accept is connected to you straight away.
One flat price a month. No credits, no commission, no per-lead charge, and no twelve-month contract. Quote as much as you like — the cost never moves.
Every price published here is the price you pay. No contract, no credits, cancel any month.
What trades told us while we were building it.
Anything else, email hello@tradeyard.co.uk and a person will reply.
We are signing up verified trades first, so that every job posted actually gets quoted. Tell us where you are and we will let you know the moment we go live.
One app for homeowners, one for trades — and a single account if you happen to be both.
